Start at Fushimi Inari Taisha in Kyoto, where thousands of vermilion torii gates wind up the mountain. Then head to Arashiyama to walk the bamboo grove and see the Togetsukyo Bridge.

In the afternoon, visit Nara Park, where more than 1,000 free-roaming deer bow for crackers, and Todai-ji, home to one of Japan's largest bronze Buddhas in a huge wooden hall. Tours start from Osaka; a Kyoto pickup is also available.

Know Before You Go

  • Fushimi Inari and Arashiyama are very busy; the guide sets meeting times at each stop.
  • Nara's deer are wild – they can nip and head-butt when they smell crackers.
  • Expect a lot of walking.

  1. Prices are per ticket in Indian Rupees (INR) and include taxes. You pay the total shown at checkout – there are no hidden booking fees.
  2. Your booking is confirmed once payment succeeds. Your e-ticket or voucher is emailed to you, usually within 24 hours of booking.
  3. Carry your passport; attractions and tour operators may check the lead traveller's ID against the booking.
  4. Child, junior and senior prices follow the attraction's own age rules, checked at entry. If a ticket type doesn't match, the difference may be charged there.
  5. Bookings are valid only for the date on your voucher. Timed-entry attractions also have a set entry time, which we confirm with your voucher. To change the date, contact Plantenium before the day – changes depend on availability.
  6. Attractions, boats, ropeways and tours in Japan can close or change for typhoons, heavy snow or volcanic alerts. If the operator cancels, you get a full refund or a new date.
