Osaka Castle was first built in the 1580s by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who unified Japan. Today's main tower houses a museum over eight floors, with armour, folding screens of the Summer War of Osaka and a miniature model of the battle.

The top floor's open gallery looks over the park, the huge stone walls and the moats. Around the castle, Osaka Castle Park is one of the city's best places for cherry blossoms in spring.
