Borobudur was built in the 9th century as a giant stone mandala, with 2,672 relief panels and 504 Buddha statues rising through terraces to a ring of stupas. Your guide explains the carvings as you walk the temple grounds with Mount Merapi in the background.

In the afternoon, visit Prambanan, Indonesia's largest Hindu temple complex, with its 47-metre central tower dedicated to Shiva. The tour is by private car with an English-speaking guide.

Know Before You Go

  • Climbing onto Borobudur's upper terraces needs a separate timed ticket with a quota – ask us if you want it.
  • Wear modest clothing; sarongs are provided.
  • Bookings need at least 2 guests.

  1. Prices are per ticket in Indian Rupees (INR) and include taxes. You pay the total shown at checkout – there are no hidden booking fees.
  2. Your booking is confirmed once payment succeeds. Your e-ticket or voucher is emailed to you, usually within 24 hours of booking.
  3. Carry your passport; attractions and tour operators may check the lead traveller's ID against the booking.
  4. Child prices follow the operator's own age rules, checked on the day. If a ticket type doesn't match, the difference may be charged there.
  5. Pickup times are confirmed by the operator the day before. Hotel pickup covers the main tourist areas (for Bali: Kuta, Legian, Seminyak, Canggu, Jimbaran, Nusa Dua, Sanur and Ubud); other areas may have a small surcharge.
  6. Bookings are valid only for the date on your voucher. To change the date, contact Plantenium before the day – changes depend on availability.
  7. Boat trips, treks, dives and water sports can be cancelled for weather, sea conditions or volcanic activity. If the operator cancels, you get a full refund or a new date.
