The M visa is for business and trade: meetings with suppliers or clients, trade fairs such as the Canton Fair, factory and site visits, and signing contracts. It is not for paid work in China. You need an invitation from a company in China (or from a trade fair organiser).

Applications from India start online: the visa form is filled in and checked online, then the passport is handed in once at a Chinese Visa Application Service Centre (CVASC) in New Delhi, Mumbai or Kolkata, and collected with the visa sticker. Short single- or double-entry visas are currently exempt from fingerprints.

The visa officer decides the visa's validity, number of entries and length of stay; first-time applicants are generally given a single-entry visa. The price includes the Chinese visa fee (Rs 2,900 for a single entry at the reduced rate for Indians, valid to 31 December 2026) and the CVASC service fee.
