Pick a kimono (or yukata in summer), get dressed by professionals, and spend the day walking Gion, Kiyomizu-dera and the old lanes of Higashiyama in style.
Choose from hundreds of kimono, an obi sash and accessories at a rental shop in Kyoto's old town. Staff dress you – it takes about 30-45 minutes – and look after your own clothes until you return the kimono the same day.
Then walk to Kiyomizu-dera, the stone lanes of Sannenzaka and Ninenzaka, and Gion, where kimono fit right in. Many temples and shrines welcome kimono-wearing visitors with great photos.
